In conjunction with North Carolina
State University (NCSU), island-in-the-sea fibers with 1120 islands
were spun on the Hills in-house pilot line. These fibers were drawn
down to one denier. The sea polymer was PVA and fibers with polypropylene,
polyester and nylon island fibers were all produced. The resulting
nano fibers were taken to NCSU and analyzed. INS fiber with up to
3000 islands were later spun in the lab. Parties interested in developing
or producing such fibers on our in-house equipment should contact
