October 9, 2008 Hills, Inc. of West Melbourne Florida has made the world's smallest plastic gear using it's newly developed nanofabrication process. It is a 15 tooth gear with a 55 micron pitch diameter, 20 micron face and a 12 micron bore. Thats a 6927 diametral pitch gear!! While this gear may or may not have a practical use, it demonstrates the capabilities of Hills' new nanofabrication process.
