Concentric Ring Fiber

January, 2003 - Hills' engineers were recently asked to develop a bicomponent spin pack and process to produce a fiber with a concentric ring cross-section. The results are shown below.

This is a special version of a multi-sheath fiber. Although Hills has made multi-sheath fibers in the past, this fiber has layers with even thickness. This is especially tricky since it requires a precisely different flow rate for each layer. Although this fiber has 6 layers, any layer count is possible.
